also known as gum disease, is a severe inflammatory disorder that, left untreated, can lead to tooth loss. The word periodontal means “around the tooth.” Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the gums and bones supporting the teeth. Periodontal disease can affect one tooth or many teeth. It begins when the bacteria in plaque (the sticky, colorless film that constantly forms on your teeth) causes the gums to become inflamed.
Deep Scaling
Involves removing plaque and tartar from the surface of the teeth and the pocket area between the teeth and gums. This is part of the Deep Cleaning process.
Root Planning
Smooths the tooth root and helps the gums reattach to the tooth. This is part of a Deep Cleaning process.
Local Delivery Antimicrobials
Strategically placed antibiotic medications are inserted into the periodontal pockets around the tooth to deliver a specific dose of medicine over a set time.
Systemic Antimicrobials
Reinforces deep scaling and root planing treatments to support the individual’s immune system in overcoming the periodontal infection.
